His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Jazan region, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the region, and His Excellency the minister of industry and Mineral Resources, Mr. Bandar bin Ibrahim al-khorayef, sponsored today the signing ceremony of the agreement on investment and operation of the port of Jazan city for basic and transformational industries, remotely via international video communication with the Chinese company (Hutchison Ports), to operate a global multi-purpose terminal in Jazan city for basic and transformational industries.
In a speech during the ceremony, H. E. The Minister of Industry stressed the importance of the agreement, which aims to operate the port of Jazan city for basic and manufacturing industries, and the port’s importance due to its location on the most important maritime transport corridors in the world and near the Horn of Africa countries and emerging markets, to be a point of providing modern and advanced logistics services in the region, which enhances the kingdom’s presence in this field and achieving the goals of the kingdom’s Vision 2030, and contributes to making the kingdom a global logistics platform, by providing the best services and ensuring the highest levels of quality and efficiency.
He pointed to the advantages of the port of Jazan city for basic and manufacturing industries because it is located at a crossroads as one of the busiest trade corridors between the East and the West and the fast-growing trade corridors between the North and the South, which will be important in supporting Jazan city for basic and manufacturing industries to reach the full utilization of the potential available in it, and is a major gateway to the southern region.
He pointed out that the port includes a container terminal, a general cargo terminal, a dry bulk terminal equipped with the latest handling equipment and a dock with a length of 16.5 meters, pointing out that the commercial operations of the first phase will begin in mid-2021, and will begin with the general cargo and dry bulk terminal with a pier with a length of 540 meters to serve the immediate needs of tenants in Jazan city for basic and manufacturing industries, while the first phase of commercial operation of the container terminal will begin in early 2022 via a pier with a length of 730 meters.
